Hou Quan Yi Lu: The 18-Step Form of Monkey Boxing

The “Hou Quan Yi Lu” is the first disciple form of the revered Monkey Boxing style, bringing to life the ancient techniques of the Monkey King, Sun Wu Kong. This form pays homage to the traditional monkey styles with movements that reflect the sacred gestures before an ancient temple altar.

This 18-step choreography unveils the essence of monkey combat techniques through high and low stances. It showcases leg techniques, claws, flat hands, finger strikes, and grips, creating a fluid and enchanting dance that can both captivate and immobilize an opponent. Knee and throwing techniques add a mystical power to this harmonious sequence.

The form progresses in a straight line, symbolizing a guardian passing through temple gates. There are three gates: a central gate, an entrance for spiritual forces, and two flanking gates, each with sacred meaning. Practitioners perform this sacred dance with utmost respect and devotion before the central gate.

Through the “Hou Quan Yi Lu,” students experience the enigmatic greeting of the Monkey God, preparing for the path of the Monkey School. This form initiates practitioners into the profound mysteries of Monkey Kung Fu, revealing the ancient techniques of the Jiang family in their full splendor and magic.
